Evaluation:
My sound project was a successful Foley piece in my opinion. I feel that it included all of the elements that the scene required to create a sense of emotion for the audience. These techniques built emotions where necessary.
I started my research looking into the different types of sound and how sound is used in foley pieces . this meant I was able to put together types of sound I would need to create the scene as well as help me put together the sound what was necessary . I then researched into some examples of foley pieces to develop my understanding of how the sounds are used in the technique. I also researched into foley to see what types of materials are used to create sounds. From this I was able to apply similar techniques when it came to creating my Foley. The skills I used during the creation of this project were foley and messing around with sound. I believe that my project has benefited me for me to understand how sound is made and how you can manipulate the work.
Once I had developed my idea in full I began analysing what sound i would need from the scene to then do it myself. From this I was able to make a list of the sound I would need to create . I then went on to produce the sounds on my sound list , which then went into a script which would list how the sounds play in terms with the visuals.
Foley artists don't want their work to stand out – their work exists to convince you that a film's sound effects were captured on location. You're not supposed to realise that what you're hearing is often something completely different to what you're seeing , you're simply supposed to believe it. so in mine i had to establish what i wanted to make to create a sense of realism. The sound i struggled on the most was ringing bells , i could not find a church which would ring bells. luckily i had gone on holiday and church bell was ringing. What i understood in creating this project is that , it does not have to be the exact object you are creating , you can manipulate sounds to sound like what you are making. a lot of sounds i made were made just by materials i found. The need for these sounds were vital , without them there would be no impact on the audience. A large part of the Foley process involves mimicking the footsteps of the characters on screen. By doing this i could match the sounds to the scene to really make it look realistic , this meant i was wasting less time on editing.
During production the equipment I used was a zoom mic , editing software , lots of materials such as knives and forks to create a sword type noise. Premiere Pro post production software meant that I was able to compile my footage together and sync it in with the sounds i had produced . I also had to apply effects to the sounds themselves such as echoes, amplifying and reverb to enhance the effect that was needed for that specific location. there are many effects i could use on premiere pro that opened up to many possibilities that i put together.
I spoke about my target audience in my research and stated that although the visuals had already been established as the age rating the sound hasn't, what i meant by that as that sound can really emphasise a scene so i needed to make sure i implemented sounds that are suitable and not gory or sound scary. I believe i did this and to show evidence of it is by when a man is falling he makes a lighter moan instead of a scared man screaming , doing this successfully meant that i had made sure my target audience stuck to its objective.
To conclude I am very happy with the finalised Foley pieced i had put together. It involves a lot of effort for sound and especially Foley . All the sounds were added in post production and needed to be edited slightly for the effect that i wanted . This was therefore successful because after showing it to people they shocked at how real it was and that was my aspiration to create a sense of realism.
